The company Petrostreamz AS is a spin-off from PERA AS. PERA is a specialist petroleum engineering (mostly upstream) consulting company founded in 1988 with clients worldwide, including all major oil companies.
Through our diverse work with many oil companies around the world, we have seen the need for tools that integrate and bridge the engineering and management of petroleum streams from reservoir to product sales.
During the past five years PERA has developed such software and for the past three years PERA has applied the software to solve a wide variety of practical problems.
Today’s petroleum industry is missing a great opportunity to add significant commercial value to their "gas" and "oil" reserves. Namely, they lack the ability to keep a detailed, quantitative upstream-to-downstream accounting system of the individual components making up petroleum resources. Petroleum streams are characterized by the amounts and physical properties of components (compounds or molecules) making up crude oil and natural gas, ultimately sold as a wide variety of refined products (natural gas, NGLs, gasoline, jet fuel, etc.).
Petrostreamz Pipe-It™ software makes the detailed accounting of petroleum components and products possible. This is done by creating a detailed petroleum component infrastructure, built at any level from individual wells, to reservoirs, to field complexes, to pipelines, to refineries. There is no limit to the size of a Petrostreamz infrastructure, including an all-encompassing corporate-level solution. This capability has not been available to the petroleum industry previously.
Our software, Pipe-It™ provides a suite of tools that allows petroleum streams to be quantified, characterized, and accounted for from the first point of flow in the reservoir to appearance on the market as highly-refined products – and at all points in between.
Some of our customers have already used the Pipe-It™ engine Streamz to solve sophisticated technical problems, including complex field optimization applications. Pipe-It™ is a new software application making use of Streamz at the ground level to manage and optimize petroleum assets.
Pipe-It™ allows the use of practically any 3rd-party software that is currently part of a petroleum project solution. The Petrostreamz engine Streamz links 3rd-party applications and allows them to communicate seamlessly –with maximum accuracy. Several reservoir simulators (Eclipse, VIP, Sensor) may be used to generate production forecasts for different fields in a project. Results are linked together using Streamz, transferred to a pipeline simulator which is then linked with Streamz to a process simulator. Processed streams enter the transportation network and ultimately arrive at refineries or end-users. Upstream and mid-stream products can be compared with metered product rates, stored in a database system, and used in history matching and optimization.
